Concepts for a washing machine with sonified behviors

A project created during an internship at IDEO. I developed a framework for thinking about the role of sound in interaction design. The framework contains a conceptual space created by two major axes: information vs. expression, and focus vs. periphery.
As an example I developed concepts for a washing machine that uses it's own sounds in a new design to communicate information about settings. Among other ideas, it plays a short 'overture' before starting the cycle.
