Interesting how this is comparable in some ways to the sonic drafting process I usually employ.. In sound-designer jargon this involves “spotting”, which refers to reviewing existing artifacts (including AV media) according to specific sonic criteria and building so-called temp tracks. one essential difference is of course, that the “foreground-background” separation is not so easily achieved with sound..
